Loris Assis

Loris Assis is a Brazilian artist based in Orlando whose painting explores the relationship between nature, perception, and inner states.

Her work begins with a simple question: why does the same world never look exactly the same to two people?

Nature is the starting point. Gardens, fields, water, and light appear throughout her paintings, but not as scenes to be reproduced. Instead, they become a way to investigate perception, memory, and inner experience.

In her work, what is seen never remains entirely stable. Some forms emerge clearly. Others dissolve, disappear, or remain only as traces. The landscape can become quiet, intense, close, distant, or fragmented. What happens outside and what happens within begin to merge.

Her painting develops in the space between figuration and abstraction. The images do not come from a desire to abandon reality, but from an interest in how far it can be transformed without disappearing completely.

Throughout the process, the painting changes as well. Parts are built, covered, and revisited. What once seemed defined may lose its form. What nearly disappeared may return. This transformation becomes part of the meaning of the work itself.

Loris Assis does not seek to describe a specific place. Her research investigates how what we carry within us can profoundly alter the way we see what is in front of us.
